Chic & simple
This busy working couple with two small children wanted a little patch of exotic heaven for their back garden. They needed to keep as much lawn as possible for the children to play on so one large border was the answer. The rest of the space was left to lawn and both boundary fences were stained matt black to give a graphic backdrop to the foliage & hot flower colours.

The first phase for the garden was planting up the big border. They both loved bold architectural exotic looking plants and hot tropical flower colours. As this garden was largely sunny and quite sheltered the choice of planting could be verging on the tropical, and there are plenty of plants with incredible jungley foliage that are hardy enough for London gardens.

The garden will be completed by the addition of a hardy palm tree trachycarpus fortunei and a few more bold foliage plants to further enhance the tropical look.

The tropical look was created by using:
Hardy palm trachycarpus fortunei
Phormiums
Cordyline australis
Fatsia japonica
Sambucus nigra
Crocosmia lucifer
Canna
Grasses
Agapanthus
